Preserving the Integrity of Federal University Oye Ekiti – A Call to Action

As I walked past the Student Affairs block on my way to lectures, something caught my eye—a flyer pinned to a tree. It advertised a Tennis Tournament Party. At first glance, I thought little of it and continued on my way.

A few days later, after completing my university exams, I overheard a group of students discussing the same event. One of them, holding the flyer, boldly invited someone to the party, exclaiming, “Strippers gaann go dey sef!” His confidence was unsettling, especially in the presence of tens of other students.

Curious, I took another look at the flyer. There, in clear print, was the phrase: “STRIPPERS FOR VIP.”

⚠️ A Disturbing Trend: The Rise of Unchecked Party Culture

I am a student of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ikole Campus, and it pains me to see young minds—who should be the hope of a brighter future—led astray by reckless individuals who promote moral decay.

One of the most disheartening realities on campus is the ease with which students organize late-night parties under the guise of departmental events. While social activities are essential, events that encourage immorality and lack oversight from the university administration contribute to a decline in students’ values.

“The strategic vision of the University is to become…the pace-setter among universities in the Third World.”

However, how can this vision be realized when the fear of God—the foundation of wisdom—is being eroded through unchecked extracurricular activities? While the university administration strives to build a legacy of academic excellence and innovation, some individuals actively undermine these efforts.

✅ A Call for Urgent Reform

Publicity towards the success of the Party

It is often said, “A child left to himself will end up with a destroyed destiny.” The university must act decisively to uphold its mission:

“To create an institution that values and prepares students to lead lives of personal integrity and civic responsibility in a global society.”

To ensure that Federal University Oye Ekiti remains a beacon of academic excellence and student character development, I strongly recommend the following actions:

  • 🚫 Ban extracurricular activities that promote immorality. Events encouraging promiscuity should not be permitted.
  • 🎓 Orient students on moral and ethical values. Many students lack awareness of the long-term consequences of reckless behavior.
  • 📚 Replace harmful activities with value-driven programs. Promote skill-building workshops, leadership training, and faith-based initiatives.
  • 💡 Encourage holistic personal development. True success comes from intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth.

🚀 Conclusion: A Call to Responsibility

If Federal University Oye Ekiti is to maintain its reputation for academic excellence and character development, it must take decisive action against moral decline.

The administration has the responsibility to shape an environment where students are inspired to pursue greatness—not distracted by temporary pleasures that compromise their future.

To the university leadership, I urge you: Be the instrument that upholds discipline and instills the fear of God. Through firm policies and a commitment to values, we can build a future where students emerge strong, visionary, and equipped to transform society.

The time to act is now. Let’s not build castles in the air but instead, lay a foundation of integrity, excellence, and true wisdom.
